Definition
Direction for exploding a bill of material.
You can reconstruct the exact structure of a BOM via the paths of the components and their parent components.
The level and path are relevant exclusively for planning with phantom assemblies.
The level and path together identify the exact position of a phantom assembly in a BOM.
Example
A BOM contains the following phantom assemblies (PhanAss) and materials:
Material A

PhanAss B PhanAss C Material D
_____|________ _____|______
| | | |

PhanAss E Mat. F Mat. G Mat. H

Mat. J
To allow the user to track the position of a phantom assembly in a BOM, the levels and paths are assigned as follows:
- One level number per BOM level.
- One path number per BOM path.
In the following BOM, the first digit indicates the level, and the second indicates the path in the BOM. The following rule applies: If a material is not a phantom assembly, it is assigned level and path 0. However, if a material is a component in a phantom assembly, it inherits the level and path from the phantom assembly.
