Use

In group maintenance (such as cost center group, activity type group, or cost element group), the key date is used as follows:

  1. The texts from the relevant master data appear for the single values in the end nodes. Since this master data may change in each period, the R/3 System searches for a text valid on the key date. If no master data text is valid on the key date, a text valid on another date appears.
  2. If you run a completeness check (to check whether a group contains the existing master data), it checks only the master data valid on the key date.

Procedure

The key date is defaulted (current date), but you can change this by choosing Key date.

Examples

  1. The following texts are maintained for a cost center:
    • 01/01/1994 - 12/31/1994 Production cost center
    • 01/01/1995 - 12/31/1995 Cost center for production

The "Production cost center" text appears on 29 Apr 1994, the "Cost center for production" appears on 17 Nov 1995 and neither of the invalid texts appears on 14 Mar 1996.

  2. A cost center does not appear when a Report Writer report is run. One possible reason is that the cost center is not in the cost center group entered in the report or is not valid during the reporting timeframe.

A completeness check displays the missing cost center in the group. The check shows whether the cost center is invalid only if you give a date for the check. Therefore, specify a key date when running a completeness check.
