Number used by the component supplier to identify the production series from which the customer releases and receives materials.

Use
By using a serial number, you can make sure that the same BOM is always used (that is the same components, routings, and so on) for manufacturing the production series.
The serial number is allocated a fixed key date for this purpose. This means that the BOM which is valid for the fixed key date is always used for production.

If the customer is to receive a material from a certain production series, you enter the appropriate BOM explosion number here.
Example
