Definition

ID of the rate which should be used for settlement.

Examples

  • In securities trading

  • Bid price = stock exchange price at which securities are bought
  • Ask price = stock exchange price at which securities are sold

  • In foreign exchange trading

Here, 3 rates are listed for every foreign currency:

  • Bid rate = foreign exchange buying rate
  • Ask rate = foreign exchange selling rate
  • These two rates are used for settlements between banks and their customers.
  • Middle rate = price determined in official foreign exchange trading;
  • The middle rate is the arithmetic mean between the bid and ask rate. The bid and ask rates are determined by subtracting or adding certain margins determined by the German Central Bank.
    The price margin between the bid and ask rate was determined to be approx. 0.325%.
