Definition

This is the factor of a currency unit (From-currency) that is translated into another currency (To-currency). The factors form the basis and are used for clear interpretation of listed foreign exchange rates.

Currency units are displayed in units of 1, 100 and 1000.

Examples

Currency relationships are displayed by means of the factors

As shown above, there is a 1:1 exchange relationship between DEM and USD and a 1:100 relationship between DEM and CHF. DEM is, for example exchanged for Italian lire on a 1:1000 basis.
