Definition
A posting period is a self-contained segment of a fiscal year.
Use
Each business transaction is assigned to a particular posting period. The transaction figures of the business transactions are cumulated by posting period.
The fiscal year can be divided into posting periods in different ways:
- Posting period = 1 calendar month (12 posting periods per fiscal year)
- Posting period = 4 weeks (13 posting periods)
- Posting period = 1 week (52 or 53 posting periods)
