Definition
Special function for handling negative costs in results analysis.
Use
If you are using the POC method, special function "A" specifies that the percentage of completion is zero when negative costs are reported. The percentage of completion is determined by dividing the actual costs by the planned costs.
- If no special function is active, negative costs will result in a negative percentage of completion. In this case, results analysis creates a revenue surplus.
- If special function "A" is active, the percentage of completion is set to zero. This also sets the calculated revenue to zero.
If you are using revenue-based results analysis, the cost of sales is compared with the actual costs, and the system calculates work in process or reserves for unrealized costs. Special function "B" is used when no revenue has been realized and the cost of sales is therefore zero.
- If no special function is active, negative costs result in reserves for unrealized costs.
- If special function "B" is active, the system will report negative WIP.
Procedure
Examples
Negative costs can be incurred at the beginning of a project when certain credits have been received from a vendor but no costs have yet been incurred.
Dependencies
The results analysis type and the profit indicator determine whether you use revenue-based results analysis or the POC method. This special function is mainly used at the beginning of a project (status = "released").
