Definition

Unit of measure for measuring the output of an activity type or business process (unit of alternative output).

An alternative output unit can be specified if the output of the activity type or business process is measured in a unit different to the one specified for the activity quantity.

If you have entered an output unit and an output factor in the master data, then in planning you can (directly) enter the:

  • Output quantity
  • Activity quantity
  • Activity quantity and choose "Edit -> Activity -><->Ouput -> Activity->Output" to determine the output quantity
  • Output quantity and choose "Edit -> Activity -><->Output -> Output->Activity" to determine the activity quantity

Example 1

One hour of activity type "Metalworking" produces 10 drills. The activity unit is "hours", the alternative output unit is "pieces". You can also specify an output factor. In this example the output factor is 10.

Example 2

It takes an average of 30 minutes to process a customer inquiry. The activity unit is "Pieces", the alternative output unit is "Hours". The alternative output unit is 0.5.

Notes

You can also use the alternative output unit with Direct Internal Activity Allocation and when you create cycles (Indirect Internal Activity Allocation).
