Use

The field catalog contains fields that are permitted for the definition of condition tables.

Field catalog maintenance is divided into three screen areas:

  • Field catalg area
  • Detail area for field and data element (can be displayed or hidden)
  • Detail area for the log (can be displayed or hidden)

Field Catalog Area

The field catalog area is the main part of field catalog maintenance. This is where you can process fields, or create new ones. The following fields can be maintained in the change mode:

  • Type of subcommunication structure. An entry can only be made in the field for the selection of All Fields, otherwise a specific type is provided.
  • Field: Enter the field name here. Keep in mind that the name range Y* and Z* is reserved as customer name space. All other name space is reserved for SAP.
  • Virtual : Assigning the attribute virtual to a field determines the occurence of the field.
  • Selection type: This attribute determines the type of selection of condition records for general condition maintenance.
  • Data element: The data element determines the business relevance, as well as the data type of the field. In most cases, all data elements that exist in the system can be selected. After entering the data element, the description, data type, as well as field length are displayed in the column of the table control that has not been included. Keep in mind that the name range Y* and Z* is reserved as customer name space. All other name space is reserved for SAP. Note: A data element can only exist once in the field catalog.

The following special functions are possible in the field catalog area:

  • Select
  • Select block
  • Deselect
  • Position

Detail Area for Field and Data Element

The detail area can only be maintained for a selected field from the field catalog area, for which the function detail is selected (magnifying glass icon).

  • Relationships

In this area, you can maintain relationships for selected fields to other fields. Relationships are useful, if the internal and external usage of field differs.

Example:

The field PRODUCT (Product GUID) is only used internally. Its external display is the concatenation of the fields LOGSYS (logical system), PRODUCT_ID (product) and PRODUCT_TYPE (product type). Enter the three fields as relationships for the PRODUCT field.

The selected field should always be a field with internal usage (this is the virtual column in the field catalog area). It is then possible to maintain relationships to fields with an external usage. If the usages of the fields do not fit, the system issues an error message accordingly.

You can only maintain relationships to fields from the global field catalog (table /SAPCND/T681FF).

  • Dependencies

In this area, you maintain dependencies for the data element of a selected field to another data element. These dependencies are checked during condition record processing.

    Example:

Before checking the PRODUCT field for the data element COMT_PRODUCT_GUID (product GUID), the system should first check the sales area. The dependency to the data element of the sales area therefore has to be maintained.

In dependencies, you can only select data elements from the global field catalog.

Detail Area for the Log

The system displays the application log in the log area that is written during the last call of a transaction when saving and/or generating.

Standard functions of the application log are available.

Logs are saved under the following object of the application log: COND_TECHNIQUE (subobject FIELD_CATALOGUE).

You can display all logs with transaction SLG1 (evaluate application log). Logs that are no longer required can be deleted using transaction SLG2 (Delete expired logs from application log).

Functions

The following functions are available for all screen areas.

  • Generate

Generation is necessary after a field has been entered. When this function is executed, work structures, and possible communication structures from the field catalog are generated.

  • Transport

Manual transport of the field catalog is usually not required because of the automatic transport connection of field catalog maintenance.

However, it is possilbe to trigger a manual transport of the complete field catalog for an application, and for example, makes sense in the case of an upgrade to SAP_AP 7.0, if customer fields exist. For further information see Release Info.
