The field is optional.

If the vendor number as well as the supplying plant number is missing in the store order, source determination is then carried out.

If no source of supply can be determined, an error workflow for this item is then started.

If the supplying plant and vendor are defined, a check is carried out on whether the numbers agree with each other.
