Definition
Differentiating characteristic within a correspondence application.
The differentiating characteristic is used within a correspondence application to select one of several correspondence activities for printing a letter using certain criteria.
Further notes
Only details that are unique to each letter can be used as differentiating characteristics.
Examples:
- You want to print a letter for a rental agreement.
- The rental agreement as well as the corresponding rental unit, the business entity, etc. are all unique; attributes of these objects can therefore be used as differentiating characteristics.
- You want to print a letter for the rent adjustment for a rental agreement. The condition amounts of the rental agreement can be adjusted according to one or more adjustment methods. Therefore, the adjustment method is not unique and cannot be used as a differentiating characteristic.
- Instead, you can create an appropriate text for each adjustment method. When you print a rent adjustment letter, you can insert only those texts that apply to the adjustment methods that occur in the letter.
Effects on Customizing
When you set up differentiating characteristics, you also have to create function modules that calculate the differentiating characteristic for each object and correspondence application. You also have to create general texts that describe this calculation.
You have to enter these function modules and help texts in Customizing.
Before creating function modules and help texts, read the instructions provided.
Within the "Notice" correspondence application you can select the reason for notice as the differentiating characteristic.
Then, when you print notices, the correspondence activity belonging to the reason for notice of each selected rental agreement is used to print the letters.
