Definition
The optimization of smoothing factors is a mathematical search procedure for determining the best possible smoothing factors. This means adjusting the underlying forecasting model to match the historical data as far as possible, by varying smoothing factors. In this way you can generally expect the best forecast quality for the forecasting model.
Variation of smoothing factors occurs within certain limits. These limits define the search space.
Use
Select this option to achieve the highest forecast quality. Note that optimization involves a high calculation cost. This is particularly true of the trend-seasonal model. Calculation cost also depends on the size of the search space and the level of detail for the stepsize selected.
