Definition

There are different functions and restrictions dependent on the type

of planning folder. At the moment there are four different types of folders. They differ in how they are presented in the SAP GUI and whether they are also possibly accessible in the Web:

  • With an input and an output area and ALV Grid controls, not Web-enabled (see comment 1)
  • With an input and an output area and ALV Grid controls, Web-enabled (see comments 1, 3, and 4)
  • Only with input area, Excel in Place possible in SAP GUI, not Web-enabled (see comment 2)
  • Only with input area, Excel in Place possible in SAP GUI, Web-enabled (see comments 2 and 3 )
  • Text nodes (see comment 5)

Comments:

1) Folders with Separate Output Areas in SAPGUI:

The planning screen is divided in two. The ready for input planning layouts are displayed in the upper half, not ready for input layouts can be displayed in the lower half. But it is not absolutely necessary to define output layouts. Layout header areas are never displayed. For that reason, all layouts should have the same or at least very similar header selections. Independent of the settings in the planning environment, an ALV Grid control is always used for the presentation of the layouts. (Attention: Also when you use the ALV Grid, the system starts Excel in the background when a layout was set up for Excel). Otherwise all functions of manual planning are possible in the planning folder (for example hierarchies, adding rows).

There are some additional functions with this folder type:

  • Layouts can be output additionally or exclusively as graphics in the lower output area.
  • Changed cells can be colored after an entry or executing a function.
  • Currency fluctuations can be simulated with an exchange rate maintenance.

2) Folders without Separate Output Areas in SAP GUI:

There are no separate output layouts, instead only one layout is always displayed. All attributes of the layout are taken into account for this. It is possible to use Excel in Place, display layout header areas and to also scroll in this. However, special aditional functions of the planning folders are not available.

3) Folders in the Web with SAP Web Application Server:

In addition to the possibilities and restrictions of a folder in the GUI, the following must be taken into account with HTML folders:

  • There is only a restricted input help for rows and variables to be entered new. In principle it always makes more sense in the WEB to either define the rows of the layout individually or to display all characteristic combinations.
  • Hierarchies are not supported. If a BW hierarchy is defined in the lead column of a layout, then only the leaves of the hierarchy are displayed (in the order defined by the hierarchy).
  • It is not possible to scroll in layout headers. The header characteristics must always be restricted uniquely.
  • To execute a folder in the browser, you should generate a Web interface out of it first.

4) Folders in the Web with ITS Flow Logic

This possibility is no longer developed and should no longer be used. Adding rows is not possible. Total rows are not displayed. Layout headers are never displayed. Folders withtout display areas are not supported. There is no possibility to display quick infos in layout title elements. They are displayed instead as the heading of the layout. Since all layouts are always loaded, the performance is low with this solution when planning functions are executed frequently.

5) Text Nodes

Folders can be structured with text nodes. They cannot be executed and are not taken into account in the Web. It is possible to arrange folders hierarchically using text nodes. Text nodes that contain folders cannot be copied or deleted.
