Definition

If this option is selected, the extraction utility compresses data records.

Compression usually reduces file sizes by 40 percent. You can estimate compression effects with the "File size worksheet" utility (configuration menu). Compression increases processing times by approximately 15 percent.

Technical background

Compression removes trailing spaces for each field in a data record and separates the fields with a delimiter ";". Prior to the compression, each occurence of the delimiter character in the record is replaced by a "space" character.
