Definition

A target system is a logical name for SAP instances of the same type. It is an entry in a system data container. A target system must have an RFC destination, and can have a product version assigned to it.

You can get the links to parameters and command interfaces from another system than the development system of the eCATT objects, at the development/maintenance event of eCATT objects. This maintenance system can be specified in a target system of a system data container, and is only relevant for the development/maintenance event of the eCATT objects. You can still execute commands in such a maintenance system, to test the test script. The target system is specified in the Attributes-General Data tab in the eCATT object editor.

Automatic tests are performed by executing test configurations. You can specify an SAP instance to be tested, which is in turn determined by a target system in the system data container. The user can test system landscapes of the same type comprising different instances, by switching the system data container. The target system is specified in the eCATT object tab in the test configuration editor. The target system can be overwritten by the Test Workbench.

When you migrate test cases for eCATT test scripts, you can read the test cases remotely from a source system. The source system is also determined by the logical name from the system data container, i.e. via a target system.
