Definition

Each scenario requires a reference currency to avoid any inconsistencies that may result from the estimates for currencies. Therefore, all exchange rates are expressed in relation to the reference currency.

Purpose

For example, the reference currency could be EUR. If EUR is the leading currency in relation to currency XXX, then all exchange rates used in the scenario are expressed as

EUR/XXX

If XXX is the leading currency, the exchange rate is the other way round: XXX/EUR. Therefore, the leading currency always comes first (leading currency = from currency). In the R/3 exchange rate table (TCURR), the relationship between the currencies is independent of a leading currency. In TCURR, the base currency is always to be maintained as the to currency.

The entry screen for the exchange rates that are to be used in the scenario allows you to enter a quotation prefix. This prefix is stored in the Customizing for currencies. The quotation prefix can be P for price and quantity quotation or / for quantity only quotation. In the following example, we use P for price quotation and Q for quantity quotation.

For example, for the scenario you want to store an exchange rate for the quantity-quoted rate

USD/EUR Q0.9        (as shown in the currency table)

To do this, you enter the currency USD in the table, which results in the currency pair EUR/USD, EUR being the leading currency. In the scenario, you maintain this exchange rate as a price-quoted exchange rate:

EUR/USD P0.9        (as shown in the scenario)

In both cases, the rate factors for EUR/USD are read. These factors apply for quantity-quoted rates for the pair USD/EUR and for price-quoted rates for the pair USD/EUR.
