Definition

Order type that is to be newly created or revised.

Identifier allowing differentiation between the different kinds of purchase order in the SAP system.

For example, by means of the order type you can distinguish between a standard purchase order and a stock transport order, even though both documents belong to the order category "purchase order".

The order type controls the number assignment of a purchase order and determines which fields you must maintain.

It also controls the order types into which any processed ones may be transformed or those they may result from. (For example, whether a purchase requisition with subcontract items may be transformed into a standard purchase order involving third-party processing).
