Setting up groupings
On this screen you can set up groupings for the values of a specific field.
Example:
For the 'Route' field (that you have selected on the previous screen) you want to define the following groupings:
- A first group for routes '000011' and '000012'
- A second group for routes '000003' to '000006'
- A third group for all remaining routes
These groupings can be used in several ways.
Examples:
- Defining grouping criteria when combining deliveries into shipments
If the 'Route' field of the delivery is specified as the grouping criterion, you can only combine deliveries into a shipment that use the same route.
You can also use a more complex grouping procedure. By using the grouping setup above, you could combine all deliveries of the first group (that is, those that use routes '000011' and '000012') into one shipment, all deliveries that use routes '000003' to '000006' into another shipment, and all remaining deliveries into a third shipment. - Defining the sequence of deliveries in a shipment
If the 'Route' field of the delivery is specified as the sorting criterion, all deliveries in a shipment will be sorted by route (of course, you can use multiple sorting criteria, for example, 'Route' and 'Postal code').
You can use a more complex sorting procedure for a field by using the groupings rather than the field contents as criteria. In this case, all deliveries that use routes '000011' and '000012' would be listed first. The deliveries that use routes '000003' to '000006' would come next, and all other deliveries would come last.
Setting up groupings can be very complex. You can set up a grouping by specifying:
- A single value (for example, 5. group = route '000020')
- A range (for example, 12. group = routes '000003' to '000006')
- A pattern (2. group = 'R*', that is, all routes beginning with an 'R')
- Additional options such as 'Not equal to', 'Greater than', and so on for each entry (choose [Options])
- A combination of the above values for a group (choose [Multiple selection])
Generally, the same rules apply in this context as for report selection criteria.
For certain fields, additional data or options appear in the upper portion of the dialogue window.
- Weight: The weight unit must be additionally specified.
- Volume: The volume unit must be additionally specified.
- Text fields: Here, you can select whether upper/lower case is to be ignored.
- Date fields: Here, you can select whether the date value specified is to be held absolute or if it is to be be converted.
