Definition

Identifies a key for encryption of data in the secure storage.

Use

The key ID is automatically assigned when a new key is generated.

It regularly comprises the following data:

• Timestamp of key generation in UTC in format YYYYMMDD_HHMMSS
• System ID of the system where the key was generated
• Installation number of the system where the key was generated

The combination of those fields provides a level of uniqueness that is not full, but sufficient for the intended purpose, and still provides some hint for humans to track-back the key to the system where it was initially created.
