Definition

A quantity is described as available if it is stored in a storage bin and not allocated to production supply. Such quantities are also referred to as surplus quantities.

Such terms are used in reference to materials for production storage bins. Here the stock is replenished by way of direct picking for an order (staging indicator 1).

The available quantity of a material in a storage bin is calculated as follows:

• available quantity
• + quantity designated for stock placement
• + total of open transfer orders
• - reserved quantity
• = available quantity

No negative available quantities are allowed.
