Definition
A processing step is a unit in which all the data from a summarization level is written to the main memory of the database.
When building a summarization level, the system first builds it in the main memory. If you build more than one summarization level in the same run, the system builds all the levels together in the main memory. Once all the necessary records have been read, the summarization levels are then written to the database one after the other.
In some cases the data volume may be too large for all the data to be held in the main memory. When the allowed buffer size is exceeded, the system writes the largest summarization level to the database and releases the memory. However, any further data that belongs in the same records in the summarization level must be added subsequently.
