Definition
Specifies whether a functional location (FL) is created in the SAP Plant Maintenance (PM) component and assigned to real estate objects in the background when real estate objects are created.
Use
- 0 No automatic maintenance
The system does not create a functional location, but you can make the assignment yourself manually. Any changes made later to the master data of the real estate object (for example, business area) are not updated in the master data of the functional location.
- 1 Create only
The system automatically creates and assigns a functional location. However, any changes made later to the master data of the real estate object (for example, business area) are not updated in the master data of the functional location.
- 2 Create and update
The system automatically creates and assigns a functional location.
Certain changes made later to the master data of the real estate object are automatically updated in the master data of the functional location.
Example:
During the automatic assignment of the real estate object to the functional location, the system also modifies the functional location hierarchy accordingly. If you then change the assignment of a rental unit so that it is assigned to a different building, or you change the building hierarchy itself, the system automatically updates the functional location hierarchy to reflect this change.

- How do I influence the number of a functional location?
In the standard system, the functional location receives its number from the primary key of the real estate object. For example, the functional location for building 0003 of business entity 0002 receives the number: BU 0002/000000001/00000003.
You can change this logic using Business Transaction Events (BTE) by means of function module 00700001.
You find this function module there by choosing Environment ->Infosystem(Processes). Then enter the component IS-RE.
- Can I influence the updating of data (->2 Create and update functional location)?
In the standard system, only certain fields are updated automatically (Data Transfer from Real EstateObject to Functional Location)
You can changes these settings using BTE functions via function module 00700002.
- How do I ensure consistent maintenance (->2 Create and update functional location)?
By assigning a user status to the functional location. This allows you to specify one of the following:
- Maintenance of the functional location is not allowed using Plant Maintenance (PM) transactions.
- A warning message appears when the object is processed in PM, indicating that the object is updated automatically.
