Definition

If the value(s) of a parameter or selection criterion in a variant are not known until runtime, a variable is assigned.

There are two sorts of variable:

• TVARV variables
  
  The values for these are stored in table TVARV and retrieved when the variant is executed.
  
• Date calculations
  
  For parameters or selection criteria with the type 'date', you can calculate the date (or period) at runtime (e.g. "last day of the previous month", "first quarter of the current year").

To assign a variable to a parameter or selection criterion, you must activate this field and then branch to variant maintenance via the "variable" key.
