Definition
When defining characteristic derivation, you must distinguish between source and target fields. Target fields are derived from source fields.
For example, if you wish to derive the sales area, the customer group and the sales group from the customer number, the customer number represents the source field and sales area, customer group and sales group represent target fields in the derivation structure.
