Definition

The settlement type determines which distribution rule is used for a particular settlement processing type.

There are four types of settlement defined in the SAP system. The AUC and PRE settlement types are only used for settlement of investment measures.

  • PER (periodic settlement):

This type of settlement is used for periodic settlements.

Only the costs of the individual settlement periods are taken into account.

Data is allocated to the following receivers from internal activity allocations:

    • Cost center
    • Internal order
    • Sales order
    • WBS element
    • Cost object
    • Business process

The data allocated is as follows:

    • Sending cost center/activity type sent
    • Business process
    • Quantities

The actual price calculation, elimination of internal business volume and variance calculation in Cost Center Accounting and in Activity-Based Costing can be correctly carried out.

Quantities are also allocated for primary costs, which you settle by cost element.

  • FUL (full settlement):

This settlement type is used for automatic settlements for full settlement.

This differs from periodic settlement in that the full settlement settles all costs from previous periods, which were incurred on a sender object (and were not yet settled). If PER settlement rules are available, these are used before those for FUL settlement.

The system does not transfer quantities from internal activity allocations to the receiver. This does not guarantee that actual price calculation, elimination of internal business volume and variance calculation are carried out correctly. For this reason, the FUL settlement type is not recommended for cost centers and business processes.

  • AuC (activation of assets under construction):

This settlement type is automatically generated if an investment profile is entered in the control data of the order, which has asset under construction as an Investment measure. You cannot change this settlement type.

The settlement takes place in the periodic settlement, and is settled 100% to asset under construction.

There is no settlement by amount for asset under construction that is managed by line items.

  • PRE (periodic preliminary settlement):

You can enter PRE rules in the settlement rule of an capital investment order/investment project. They are used in periodic settlement of capital investment measures: Posted debits are settled to CO receivers before the periodic settlement (of a capital investment measure to asset under construction). This is done using the rules that you specified.

Periodic preliminary settlement of certain line items is especially useful if certain incidental costs from an investment are assigned to an investment measure, but are not to be activated. This can be necessary to ensure that combined costs of the measure in Controlling can be monitored.
