Definition
Four settlement types are defined in the SAP system:
- Periodic settlement (PER)
You can use this settlement type to settle your costs by period. Only the costs for the settlement period are included.
- Annual settlement (AUC)
With capital investment orders, you can monitor the costs for an asset you are building yourself. Capital investment orders, which are not closed as of the year-end, must appear in the balance sheet as "Assets under construction". This is where you use year-end settlement.
- Full settlement (FUL)
In full settlement, you settle all the costs incurred in a sender object.
- Line item settlement (EPA)
This type of settlement is a good idea if you have only a few line items to settle and want to decide, while carrying out settlement, which line items are settled where. You also use line item settlement if you want to select line items from the large number of them in an asset under construction, and to capitalize them.
Notes on settlement to Profitability Analysis
The system updates the quantities below during a settlement by cost element, or if the settlement cost element has a unit of quantity:
- Quantities for primary cost elements
- Activity quantities
Supplementary Documentation - PERBZ_LD 0001
Use
If you are settling an object according to settlement type
- PER, the following applies:
All PER and YER distribution rules are included in the settlement
- FUL, the following applies:
Settlement initially proceeds as with PER, if appropriate rules are in place. The rest is settled per the distribution rules defined for FUL.
You can enter a settlement type in one of the following ways:
- manually
You can prescribe the settlement type when you start settlement. This entry then applies to all objects.
- automatically
In automatic settlement (settlement type AUT), the settlement type for is derived for each sender from the relevant distribution rules.
Automatic settlement example
If you use collective processing to settle all the orders for an order type, the system determines the settlement type for each order according to the following rule:
- capital-investment measures
If the capital-investment measure is technically closed (system status TABG), settlement type FUL applies. Otherwise, settlement type PER applies.
- Other senders
If distribtution rules for settlement type FUL are in place, that applies. Otherwise, settlement type PER applies.

Use
Note that you cannot manually create or change a distribution rule with settlement type AUC. This has the following effect on settlement rule maintenance:
The required rule is generated from the asset under construction, which is stored in the master data for a capital investment measure, (order or WBS element)when you carry out settlement for the first time.
Supplementary Documentation - PERBZ_LD 0130
Use
Note that settlement type FUL permits quantity settlement for primary cost elements only. You cannot settle quantities to assets.
Note that you cannot manually create or change a distribution rule with settlement type AUC. This has the following effect on settlement rule maintenance:
The required rule is generated from the asset under construction, which is stored in the master data for a capital investment measure, (order or WBS element)when you carry out settlement for the first time.
