Definition
The unit of measure that is used in the quantity schedule.
- Unit of measurement in which stock of the material is managed. The system converts all the quantities you enter in 'other units of measurement' into the base unit of measurement.
In inventory management, the base unit of measurement is the same as the stockkeeping unit.

Since all data is updated in the base unit of measurement, your entry for the alternative unit of measurement is particularily important. A quantity can only be exactly represented in the alternative unit of measurement if its values can be represented using the number of decimal places that are available. In order to make sure that this is the case, please pay attention to the following guidelines whenever possible:
- The base unit of measurement should be that unit of measure which allows for the greatest degree of detail.
- Conversion of the alternative unit of measurement into the base unit of measurement should result in simple fractions (not, for example, 1/3 = 0.333...).
