Documentation
Definition
Number of the material with which the system replaces an effective-out material in requirements planning as soon as the stock on-hand is used up.
Use
You can define a follow-up material in the material master record and in a bill of material for any material due to be discontinued. A follow-up material in a bill of material has greater priority than in a material master record.
Procedure
You must always enter a follow-up material in a material master record so that the system always finds a follow-up material even if this is missing in the bill of material.
Examples
Dependencies
Simple discontinuation
A component to be discontinued is replaced by a follow-up component on a specific date.
In the material master record of the component to be discontinued, the discontinuation ID must be set to 1, a follow-up material entered and an effective-out date entered.
Dependent parallel discontinuation
A group of materials is replaced by a group of other materials, i.e. when a component (main material to be discontinued) is discontinued, another component (dependent material to be disconintued) is also discontinued.
In the material master record of the material to be discontinued, the
discontinuation indicator must be set to 1, a follow-up material entered and the effective-out date entered. In the material master record of the dependent material to be discontinued, the discontinuation indicator must be set to 3.
