Definition

The German 'Operations Key' (OPS) in its present official version 1.1 is used for fulfilling the requirements of the German law, para. 301 SGB V. This requires that only those 6-character numbers found in the official version 1.1. of the Operations Key are used for coding surgeries there.

For the internal documentation, hospitals in Germany are allowed to use further coding especially for clinical and scientific purposes.
