Definition
This procedure defines how the system selects the optimum forecast model.
Procedure 1
The system uses a significance test to determine whether a trend or a seasonal pattern is present, and then selects the forecast model on the basis of the results.
Procedure 2
The system carries out the forecast using all the models, optimizes the parameters, and then selects the model with the smallest mean absolute deviation.
Procedure 2 is more precise but also much more time-consuming than procedure 1.
