Documentation
Definition
Unit of measure in which stocks of the material are managed. The system converts all the quantities you enter in other units of measure (alternative units of measure) to the base unit of measure.
Use
Procedure
You define the base unit of measure and also alternative units of measure and their conversion factors in the material master record.
Examples
Dependencies
Since all data is updated in the base unit of measure, your entry is particularly important for the conversion of alternative units of measure. A quantity in the alternative unit of measure can only be shown precisely if its value can be shown with the decimal places available. To ensure this, please note the following:
- The base unit of measure is the unit satisfying the highest necessary requirement for precision.
- The conversion of alternative units of measure to the base unit should result in simple decimal fractions (not, for example, 1/3 = 0.333...).
Inventory Management
In Inventory Management, the base unit of measure is the same as the stockkeeping unit.
Services
Services have units of measure of their own, including the following:
- Service unit
Unit of measure at the higher item level. The precise quantities of the individual services are each at the detailed service line level.
- Blanket
Unit of measure at service line level for services to be provided once only, and for which no precise quantities can or are to be specified.

Use (Asset Accounting)
You can enter a base unit of measure in fixed assets. The system then updates the asset when you post according to this quantity, based on the debit/credit flag of the transaction posted.
Quantity management is particularly important for low-value assets. When an acquisition posting is made to a collective low-value asset, the system carries out a special check. It checks whether the quantity posted causes the maximum value amount for low value assets to be exceeded. The system divides the acquisition and production costs of the asset, plus the sum of the postings from the current document, by the total quantity entered for the asset. It thereby determines the actual APC per unit of a collective low-value asset. This value is then compared with the defined maximum amount for low-value assets.

Use Asset Accounting
Specify a unit of measure in this field if you want the system to run the attachment with quantity management.

Dependencies
Supplementary Documentation - MEINS 0200
Definition
Unit of measure of the lot size.
Dependencies
The system automatically uses the base unit of measure of the material. You cannot change the unit in the production version.
Supplementary Documentation - MEINS 4001
Definition
Unit of measure of the base quantity.
Dependencies
The unit of measure of the basis quantity is taken from the BOM header.
