Documentation
Definition
Storage type where a surplus amount of material is stored.
The storage type is a subdivision of a complex, physical warehouse. Different storage types are identified by their warehousing technique, form of organization, or their function.
Example
A typical warehouse could have the following storage types:
- Goods receipt area
- Picking area
- High-rack storage area
- Bulk storage area
- Open storage area
- Goods issue area
Use
Usually, two or three storage bins are involved in a goods transfer:
- Source storage bin:
Bin from which the material is to be removed - Destination storage bin:
Bin into which the material is to be placed - Return storage bin:
Bin to which a remaining quantity is transferred if there is a requirement for complete stock removal
If neither a storage type nor a storage bin has been specified for the source, destination or return bins in a movement type, the system tries to determine first a storage type and then a storage bin in this storage type for the creation of the transfer order.
If the storage type is defined in the movement type, the system will search for a suitable storage bin in this storage type, that is, only storage bins in this storage type can be entered.
If both the storage type as well as the storage bin are defined in the movement type, this data is then preset for the creation of the transfer order and cannot be changed in the transfer order.
