Definition

Cost estimate number of a procurement alternative. This number is generated internally by the system.

Use

A procurement alternative describes the production method (for in-house production) or the source of supply (with external procurement) for a material.

In production planning you create procurement alternatives manually for the purpose of creating a mixed cost estimate that is based on multiple procurement alternatives.

In Cost Object Controlling and in Actual Costing/Material Ledger a procurement alternative is created by the system automatically. In Product Cost by Period at the product level, the term "production process" is also used which is equivalent to a procurement alternative.
