Documentation
Definition
Key that differentiates the cost object IDs according to their intended use.
Use
The cost object category controls the following:
- Which fields appear in the cost object master data
- Which control parameters, such as the cost object profile, are defaulted to the cost object master data
- Which functions are available with cost object IDs
Examples
- When you create a general cost object, your entries in the cost object category control the following, for example:
- Whether the general cost object has a periodic time base, or if it should be processed cumulatively.
- Whether costs can be planned for the general cost object.
- Whether overhead rates can be calculated for the general cost object.
- When you create a cost object hierarchy and then create individual cost object nodes, your entry in the cost object category controls the following:
- Whether distribution is allowed for the cost object hierarchy.
- Whether variances should be calculated for the cost object hierarchy
- How price differences should be settled from the cost object hierarchy
- Whether all orders for a material assigned to a cost object must be analyzed through the cost object hierarchy as a whole, or whether the orders can be analyzed individually
