Documentation
Definition
Depending on the product category and quotation type, positions are updated either using the nominal amount or the number of units.
The position value is the sum of the flows posted up to the key date.
The nominal amount based on the value date is only updated for percentage-quoted securities. A security order contains the 'interest value date' as well as the 'position value date'. The nominal amount in the position changes on the 'position value date' while the nominal amount based on value date changes on the 'interest value date'. Since these two dates can differ, the nominal amount in the position value and the nominal amount based on value date are not necessarily the same.
Example
Position date Nominal amount Nominal amount (value date) ....
01/01/1996 100,000 100,000
Buy 50,000; Position value date 01/02/1996; Interest value date 01/03/1996 (incl.) ->
Position date Nominal amount Nominal amount (value date) ....
01/01/1996 100,000 100,000
01/02/1996 150,000 100,000
01/04/1996 150,000 150,000
(The position value based on value date only increases on 01/04/1996 as the interest value date of the order is inclusive, that is, the buyer has to pay accrued interest for this day too).
Use
The nominal amount based on value date is used to calculate the NIM contribution (revenue payments) and the opportunity income/ expense for the position.
