Definition
A posting period is a self-contained part of a fiscal year.
Use
Every business transaction is assigned to a posting period. The monthly debits and credits of the different business transactions are accumulated for each posting period.
Examples of period classifications:
- for each calendar month, resulting in 12 posting periods
- every 4 weeks, resulting in 13 posting periods
- weekly, resulting in 52 or 53 posting periods
