DRG Billing Germany: Maximum Length of Stay Main Department/External Physician Department

The maximum length of stay (MLOS) stipulates the number of days a treatment episode is covered by the respective flat rate per case. If the patient's hospitalization exceeds the maximum length of stay, a daily charge can be billed in addition to the flat rate per case for the appropriate day stipulated in the catalog and for each further day not covered by the flat rate.

The MLOS is measured in days. The first day with additional charge is output.

For certain flat rates per case, the maximum length of stay when care is provided by external physicians is different to that when care is provided by the main department.
