Definition

Inpatient cases whose hospitalization lasted less than 8 hours, did not end in death, and cannot claim for service charges, are excluded from the communication procedure.

This is a further classification of the indicator "Exclude inpatient non-claim cases". If inpatient non-claim cases are already excluded, cases that lasted less than 8 hours are implicitly excluded also. If inpatient non-claim cases are not excluded, you can exclude this subgroup of short-stay patients explicitly.

Technical note: Exclusion not via case exclusion, but via program check_length_of_stay in NC22.
