Definition
This field specifies the maximum length of stay for treatment in an intensive care facility (e.g. heart surgery) as part of the overall maximum length of stay for the flat rate per case.
When this separate maximum length of stay is exceeded, not only the flat rate per case, but also the departmental per diem for intensive care treatment and the base nursing charge for each additional day the patient spends in the intensive care unit can be charged for.
