Documentation
Definition
The fiscal year in which depreciation foregone in a previous year is recognized.
Use
Make a separate entry for each asset that you want to forego depreciation on.
Dependencies
Example
In fiscal 2000, you forego depreciation of 5% on an asset. In 2001, you decide to recognize this depreciation in addition to the current year's depreciation (10%). That makes a total of 15%.
Your financial statements for 2001 show the total percentage depreciated in that year (15%) and also disclose that 5% is from the previous year. This disclosure is, however, not required in statements published in subsequent years.
If you forego depreciation several years running, you must make a separate entry for each year.
