Definition

The index life for document archiving describes how long the FI secondary indexes (contain redundant document information from header and items) are to be retained in the system.

If the index life is longer than the account type/document type life, the document can be archived and deleted from the database but the secondary index information (tables BSIS, BSAS, BSAD, BSAK, BSIP) remain in the system until they are deleted by the postprocessing program in accordance with the secondary index life. Note that the data from table BSIM is deleted with the actual document.

This retention of the secondary indexes guarantees a line item display and that archives for account numbers can be found.
