Definition

The function module specified here determines the segment fields of the relevant segments within a message type.

The EDI communications standard requires you to store a function module at segment level.

You can assign function modules at the following levels:

  1. Segment level
  2. Segment-to-group segment assignment level
  3. Segment-to-message type assignment level

If serveral function modules are specified in this hierarchy, the highest assignment is used.
Example: if function modules are specified both for the segment and for the segment-to-message type assignment, the function group defined for the segment-to-message type assignment is called. (This function module can of course in turn internally call the function module defined for the segment. This is entirely up to the programmer).

For HCMI and §301, only function module specifications at segment level are taken into account.
For CCPS, only function module specifications at segment-to-message type assignment level are used.
