Definition

Controls during document entry during which callup point the functional area is determined by the system.

Use

If you set the indicator, the system determines the functional area as soon as the document is entered and displays it in the entry screen.
In this case, the functional area is determined on the basis of the information in the coding block (structure COBL). You can use a substitution for the application area FI, callup point 0006.

If you do not set the indicator, the system does not determine the functional area until you save. You can use a substitution for the application area FI, callup point 0005.

Notes:

  • When you activate new General Ledger Accounting, the system automatically sets this indicator. This means that the derivation of the function area for new General Ledger Accounting usually occurs in the entry screen.

Not having the indicator set would correspond to the derivation logic of older releases.

  • The data available in the entry screen does not correspond exactly to the status of the data when it was saved. Consequently, the new substitution FI/0006 (as opposed to FI/0005) is run when the indicator is set. Furthermore, a different functional area may for this reason be determined when the indicator is set compared to when the indicator is not set (that is, using the old derivation logic).

This indicator has been introduced so that, after activating the new General Ledger Accounting, you can still override the automatic setting and have the system determine the same functional areas for document postings as it would have done prior to the activation. After activating the new General Ledger Accounting, you can deselect the indicator manually so that the old derivation logic is still applied for determining functional areas.

This should nevertheless be considered a transitional solution to reduce the conversion effort involved in upgrading an old release to SAP ERP. If you delete this indicator, you also need to delete the Update Functional Area in Totals Record indicator in Customizing for Controlling, in the IMG activity Include Characteristics in CO Totals Records, to avoid inconsistencies during overhead calculation, settlement, and assessment.

  • For more information about changes to how functional areas are derived in new General Ledger Accounting, see SAP Note 740519.
