Definition
When you assign a message type, a check is run during generation to determine whether a value exists for the symbol.
If no value exists for the symbol:
- A message of the selected message type is written to the application log in report generation
- The report is set to the respective status (for a message of the type Warning, the report has the status Gen. warning)
- The message appears on the report in place of the missing value
The log can be viewed in report management.
Dependencies
Alternatively you can enter a message type in the Message for Mandat. Sym. field on the Symbol tab page when you edit a symbol with the Windows Wordprocessor Integration (WWI) program During generation, the system then checks whether the value exists for the symbol at the relevant position. If the value does not exist, a message informing you of this appears on the report and in the report log as you defined in Customizing.
If you have not assigned a message type in Customizing or in the report template, no message appears on the report and in the log if the value does not exist.
Example
In the layout you can recognize that the function is active by a "/" followed by the message type, for example:
<01G1013001VA(;*/W)> defines a mandatory symbol for which a warning is written to the report log if the symbol is not filled at this position during generation.
