IDoc interface

The number range of the IDoc is client-specific. The IDoc number is determined using internal number assignment in the function module after the IDoc has been created.

EDI subsystem

The EDI subsystem cannot maintain DOCNUM while the IDoc is being created. This number is usually assigned by the SAP system. In the case of outbound IDocs, the EDI subsystem must save the DOCNUM value for status reports to the SAP system at a later date.
