Documentation

General

Describes the hierachy level to which an SAP segment is assigned. An SAP segment can only be used once for each IDoc type and can occur at the highest level, at the segment group level or in nested segment groups. The highest hierarchy level is '1' and the lowest '99'. HLEVEL must be filled.

The hierarchy level is determined as follows:

1. Segments without a parent segment are assigned either to hierarchy level 1 (if they cannot be repeated) or hierarchy level 2 (if they can be repeated). Whether the current segment is the head segment of a group or not does not affect the hierarchy level.
2. Segments with a parent segment have a hierarchy level that is one higher that that of their parent segment.

Applications

Outbound IDocs:
HLEVEL is filled by the application selection program.

Inbound IDocs:
No action required.

IDoc interface

The parent segment number is determined via HLEVEL.

EDI subsystem

Outbound IDocs:
No action required.

Inbound IDocs:
HLEVEL is filled by the EDI subsystem.
