Definition
The volume correction factor is the ratio of the standard volume to the operating volume.
The standard volume refers to the volume of a gas quantity under standard physical conditions: standard temperature (Ts) = 273.15 K and standard pressure (Ps) = 1.01325 bars. The operating volume is the volume of a gas quantity under current physical conditions.
The volume correction factor can be used to convert a current operating volume to a standard physical volume. This is necessary if you wish to calculate the energy content of the gas from the calorific value since the calorific value is always based on the standard volume.
The volume correction factor (VCF) is calculated as follows:
VCF = Ts * (Pamb + Peff) / (T * Ps * DF)
(Pamb = air pressure, Peff = actual pressure of gas meter, T = gas temperature, DF = gas law deviation factor)
