Definition
Attribute defining the category of the parallel unit of measure for catch weight materials. It is evaluated in EWM only; processes in ERP do not change.
Use
The category cannot be changed for the base unit of measure.
If a material is to be a catch weight material, a unit of measure must be qualified by the category "parallel UoM". The additional statement "base UoM is valuation unit of measure" indicates that the base unit of measure is used for stock valuation purposes. In this case, the parallel unit of measure is also termed the logistics unit of measure and is automatically adopted by the material in the material master field of the same name. The system automatically labels the material as a catch weight material. This information is only evaluated by EWM; the processes in ERP do not change as a result (as an alternative to this, see also the industry solution IS-CW).
Just one unit of measure only can be the parallel unit of measure. Its dimension must differ from that of the base unit of measure. This criterion is also satisfied if one of the two units is non-dimensional.
All units of measure that have the category "alternative parallel unit of measure" can be converted into the logistics unit of measure with a fixed conversion ratio in EWM. Their dimension must match the dimension of the parallel unit of measure (or be non-dimensional if the parallel unit of measure is also non-dimensional).
You must continue to enter the conversion ratios of all units of measure into the base unit of measure. Only in EWM is the fixed ratio between and the parallel unit cancelled. For ERP, you can regard it as a planned conversion ratio because the ERP system will continue to calculate with the conversion factors except in the case that EWM stipulates the quantities in variable conversion at document level.
All other alternative units of measure have fixed conversion ratios to the base unit (the dimensions of these units must be the same).
If further units of measure with dimensions that agree neither with the dimension of the base unit nor with that of the parallel unit are entered, the category of the unit of measure must be the same for all units of measure with the same dimension (dimensionlessness counts as a dimension).
Dependencies
This attribute can only be assigned when a material is created. There is no provision for subsequent change (after the new material is saved for the first time). In the latter case, cross-system checks would be necessary.
You can add these without modification on a project basis in Customizing for Logistics Execution. For more information, refer to the Implementation Guide (IMG) under Extended Warehouse Management Integration -> Cross-Process Settings -> Master Data -> BAdI: Check Changes Made to Units of Measure.
Example
Un Dim Cat. Comment
KG Mass Base unit of measure
PC w/o B Parallel unit of meas. Correct because no dimension, thus different from mass
PAL w/o C Fixed conversion to PC, but not to KG Correct because same dimension, i.e. also w/o dimension
TO Mass Fixed conversion to KG Correct because same dimension
L Volume C Fixed conversion to PC Correct because PC non-dimensional
CM3 Volume C Fixed conversion to PC Correct
M Length Fixed conversion to KG Correct because PC non-dimensional and L has other dimension
MM Length Fixed conversion to KG Correct because M also fixed vis-à-vis KG
--- ------- -- ----------------------------- -------------
G Mass C Fixed conversion to PC Wrong because other cat. with KG with same dimension
BOX W/o Fixed conversion to KG Wrong because KG not nondimensional
CM3 Volume Fixed conversion to KG Wrong because other cat. with L with same dimension
MM Length C Fixed conversion to PC Wrong because other cate with M with same dimension
Un = Unit of measure
Dim = Dimension
Empty cat. = Alternative unit of measure (to base unit of measure)
Cat. B = Parallel unit of measure
Cat. C = Alternative unit of measure to parallel unit of measure
