Documentation
Definition
Indicator that flags an item as a loose material that is available directly in the work center (for example, washers or lubricant).
If a material is flagged as bulk material, then the dependent requirement for this material is not MRP-relevant. This means that it is not included in the net requirement calculation. For this reason, MRP for bulk materials should be consumption-based.
If you want MRP for bulk materials to be plan-based, you must enter planned independent requirements for these materials.
Use
Dependent requirements are only created for information purposes in the planned order, and can be displayed there. The dependent requirements for bulk materials are not displayed in the requirements/stock list. MRP for the dependent requirement is not performed during planning.
Procedure
You can maintain the indicator both in the material master record and in the BOM item. The indicator in the material master record has a higher priority.
- If a material is always used as bulk material, set the indicator in the material master record.
In this case, the material item in the BOM is flagged in the Bulk material indicator in material master record field. - If a material is only sometimes used as a bulk material, set the indicator in the BOM item.
Examples
Dependencies
The indicator can only be used for production-relevant and maintenance- relevant items, and not for items relevant for calculation.
You cannot enter a production storage location for bulk materials.
To improve performance, in Customizing for MRP you can specify that no dependent requirements are created for bulk material items. The system will not offer you any information about bulk material components in either the planned order or the production order.
