Definition
Indicates the subject of X.509 certificates. The subject identifies for whom the certificate was issued. The certification authority (CA), who issued the certificate can also revoke a certificate, before the certificate's validity has expired.
Use
The subject helps to identify the entity, for whom the certificate was issued. To identify the certificate uniquely, one only needs the issuer and the serial number.
